Back in mid-June, when the United Methodist Women talked about collecting school supplies for area schools, I thought it was a good idea.  I thought we would get a few things.  I thought we could probably fill up a few baskets.

I had no idea that the collection of items would stretch across much of the front of the entrance area.  Over the last couple of weeks, I have had to step outside to get all of the school supplies in one photograph.  When we sorted the items, we filled 18 backpacks and had two boxes of extra supplies left over.

This makes me think of the story of Jesus telling his disciples to feed a crowd that numbered more than 5,000 people.  The disciples, twelve of them, found five loaves of bread and two fish among the people.  Jesus blessed them, and they multiplied to feed everyone, with 12 baskets of food left over.

The basket and other items we started with multiplied in just six weeks to a wonderful offering.  As what usually happened, God outmatched my expectations through the people of the church, and many children and teachers will be blessed by the backpacks and the leftovers.

Thank you for being such a blessing.
